If, during a spacewalk,

the astronaut becomes partially or wholly immobilized, he or she cannot return to the space craft.

It is a matter of simple inability: by then it would be virtually impossible for the incapacitated astronaut to return to the cramped inner space of the craft. It is hard enough for a fully functional human being to re-squeeze himself back into such a small space.

He will have to be unplugged and left in the vacuum of outer space while the space craft and the rest of his crewmates make reentry into Earth.
